MPOW M5 Review.

MPOW M5 review everyone! With the constant barrage of TWS being released in the market, we sure are left confused on which one to choose. Luckily, I’m here to help you decide if this TWS is worth your hard-earned bucks. Interested? Read on.

Today, I will be reviewing one of the products that placed MPOW in everyone’s radar, the MPOW M5 (formerly known as T5.)

MPOW, based in Hong Kong, has been releasing good bang-for-the-buck earpieces in the recent years and has been competitive in the affordable spectrum market.

Now enough of the company, let’s get down to the specs.

Disclaimer: This review is non-sponsored and the unit has been purchased by myself. All opinions are subjectively mine.

Currently priced at $49.99, the MPOW M5 is an aptX and Bluetooth 5.0 capable dynamic driver powered by a Qualcomm 3020 BT chipset. Because of the aptX decoding, we are expecting a more than decent dynamic range.

Packaging and Build Quality

The MPOW M5 comes in the usual accessories that you would expect from a $50 TWS. It has a charging cable, replacement ear tips that come in different sizes (S, M and L), user manual, and a bonus hand strap.

I think the hand strap comes in handy when you want it to dangle on your bag but because it is made of the usual lanyard material, it might not be durable enough to withstand daily beatings. It could also get caught on to something and break and make you lose your TWS. I opted not to use it but it was a nice plus to have. We never know who needs it.

Charging Case

Finished with faux leather, the charging case is quite unique and elegant compared to other sleek and smooth charging cases from its competition. But in my opinion, the charging case is on the larger side. It is not very pocket-friendly as the UiiSii TWS60 which was reviewed here.

The culprit for the size could be the 35-hour rated battery life of the case which could power the 5-hour rated earpieces 6 to 7 times. The size could be a pro or a con depending on your preference.

Also, the choice of using a micro-USB could be a challenge especially if you are using newer products that use USB-C cables, but if you’re still on the micro-usb train then good for you. Another con for that would be the slower charging speed.

Durability-wise, this MPOW M5 review shows that it is a tank. I have dropped the case many times, lost the earpieces out on the street overnight, got rained on, and found it the next day and still worked perfectly well. I have also stepped on the one of the earpieces on asphalt, and it still survived with a few scratches. True story, bro.

Comfort, Connectivity, and Controls

The MPOW M5 does not have a unique design that would impress consumers. It is shaped like a pill and is quite bigger than the others in the market. Hence, when I put it on, it slightly protrudes from my ears which is a bit of a no-no for me. It makes you look like a robot ready to be deployed.

Although the earpieces do not give ear exhaustion despite having them on all day, the controls of MPOW M5 is quite outdated. You would have to push the buttons on the faces of the earpieces which would cause it to be lodged in your ear canals and of course, cause slight discomfort.

Asides that, controls are easy as you can Pause/Play/Answer and Drop calls using the device. It is also possible to adjust the volume and skip tracks at the expense of discomfort. I would rather use my phone instead of doing these on the device.

Connecting to my phone is also fast but I would need to remove both earpieces from the case to be connected. After the connection, it is possible to use the MPOW M5 in mono by putting back the left earpiece. If in any case, you would like to use both again, just take out the left earpiece and it connects instantly.

Mic Quality

Being equipped with CVC 8.0 Noise-cancelling microphones, this MPOW M5 review shows that it can provide clear voice transmission during phone calls. Despite that, as the positioning of the microphones are far from the source, making phone calls in areas where there are a lot of outside noise is not be advised. Unless you want to be screaming on the phone. (U mad bro?)

Sound Quality

Lows

The most distinctive strength of MPOW M5 is its bass. It delivers impactful and robust punches when testing on Lady Gaga’s Starstruck. As for the sub bass, I would say it is good but would benefit from having more body to improve the thumps and rumbles.

Mids

MPOW M5 also has a surprisingly good midrange capability. When testing it with Bruno Mars’ Versace on the Floor, I got the feeling of the keyboards, guitar, and the singer’s voice coming together in a warm and cozy ensemble. The sound was detailed enough for a TWS and crisp as well due to the unexpectedly good headstage coming from an affordable TWS.

Highs

The highs, I believe, would be the area for improvement for the MPOW M5. When testing Lady Gaga’s The Fame and Black Eyed Peas’ Rock Your Body, I wasn’t even given a peek into audiophile territory as I was constantly pulled back by the muffled highs. A little tweaking with the treble on the equalizer would do the job though.

Overall, one would enjoy listening to bass-filled and jazzy songs with the MPOW M5. Just watch out for the highs as although it’s not piercing, it doesn’t give you the best detail retrieval to perfectly compliment the outstanding lows and mids, for a TWS.

Conclusion

Overall, for $49.99, MPOW M5 gives impressive sound, long-lasting battery life, buffed durability and the size that comes with it. If you don’t mind the latter, you can get a great sounding and reliable TWS without breaking the bank.
